Georges Bernanos’s Saint Dominic, first published in 1939, serves as the foundation for this small volume on the saint whose Order of Preachers recently celebrated its 800th Jubilee. Famous for his novels Under the Sun of Satan, A Diary of a Country Priest, and Joy, Bernanos brings the touch of the novelist to the much-neglected art of Christian hagiography, with St. Dominic as his subject. Under the deft touch of Giambrone’s translation, the bold, brash grammar of Bernanos’s sketch of the Preacher of Grace is brought to life for the first time in English.

Saint Dominic also includes, as an beautiful accompaniment to Bernanos’s work, Giambrone’s translation and introduction of True Devotion to Saint Dominic, by Marie-Étienne Vayssière, O.P., and his compilation of a post-lude of prayers and hymns to Saint Dominic and his Order.
